SKIP AROUND THE WORLD CHALLENGE
Skip Around the World was a 3-week Challenge and an important participation initiative for Active Flag. It supports schools to integrate physical activity with teaching and learning across curricular areas. It requires classes to commit to 10 mins skipping every day over 3 weeks for 15 days. Every skip completed by pupils adds 1km to their class/school skipping total (72 skips = 72km). The older students used the longer skipping ropes. Infant classes were given the option of Rope Free Activities but they chose to try out skipping. The skipping tutorial videos were very helpful to show the different stages in learning to skip. Most of the children from 1st upwards are well able to skip and some children preferred to work in pairs or threes to keep track of their skips and motivate each other. The children loved going out every day and were also interested to find out the destinations they were skipping to.
