Partnership with Parents

Board of Management Fundraiser

We had a fantastic response to our annual BOM community walk fundraiser which was held on Sunday October 5th in our local GAA complex. We enjoyed the chats as we got our steps in, followed by some tasty refreshments in the hall afterwards. A sincere thank you to everyone that made a donation and to all the wonderful parents that helped organise the event. All funds raised will go towards covering the cost of bus hire throughout the year.

Parents are a very important part of the Active School. They also support us in promoting the message that children need to be physically active for sixty minutes per day by bringing their children to after school physical activities such as GAA, soccer and rugby training, gymnastics, dance and many more pursuits.

Local Sports Partnership

We liaised with our local Sports inclusion and disability officer Aoife Power from Limerick Sports Partnership. We received helpful advice on how we can become more inclusive in PE and physical activity, promote the ASF initiative as well as a list of great ideas such as the TREE Model (Teaching styles, rules, Equipment and environment) for inclusive participation.

Local clubs

We are very lucky here in Croagh NS to have local GAA and camogie coaches visit the school during the year to help with the delivery of the games strand.

All the boys and girls really enjoyed getting out in the yard for some exercise drills, games and fun. The students have improved their ball skills and will carry that forward to the pitch, in time.

Special Visitor

We were delighted to welcome Limerick hurling player, Peter Casey, into our school in November to speak with the senior classes. Peter spoke to the students about his sporting career, advice he would give to children if he was their age and this was followed by a questions & answers session where the students gained some great insight into the sporting life of an intercounty hurler. Questions ranged from favourite hurley, jerseys and boots to best memories, hardest players to mark and of course, his view on the recent retirement of a certain Cork corner forward who won’t be putting the ball over the bar against Limerick next year.
