ACTIVE FLAG 2025 to 2026

6th May 2026

Active School Flag:

The Active School Flag (ASF) is a Department of Education initiative in Ireland, supported by Healthy Ireland, that encourages schools to promote physical activity and education, aiming for "more schools, more active, more often". It is awarded to schools that implement a whole-school approach to physical education, activity, and partnerships, valid for three years.

Croagh NS is currently working towards achieving our Active Flag.

Physical Education:

A minimum of 60 minutes timetabled PE per weekDiscretionary time is also used towards PE.

The six strands of the curriculum include:

Athletics

Dance

Gymnastics

Games

Outdoor & Adventure Activities

Aquatics

Teachers use the Primary PE curriculum, Move Well, Move often and PSSI lessons to plan their physical education lessons. Specialist coaching in Dance, Gymnastics and Games is provided for all classes throughout the year. It is the aim of our school to promote physical literacy in as many areas as possible.

Local GAA and camogie coaches visited the school during the year to help with the delivery of the games strand. In October we welcomed Tony from the G.A.A. All the boys and girls really enjoyed getting out in the yard for some exercise drills, games and fun. The students have improved their ball skills and will carry that forward to the pitch, in time. Thank you to Tony for a fantastic few weeks here in Croagh NS.
